John Williams and the Quest for Copia by Elizabeth Bellows Book Blast

copia

John William and the Quest for Copia

John William knew there was something special about the medallion Celeste found. It chimed and sparkled in the sunlight. He was right; the medallion was from Copia, a lost city masked in time. Legendary tales were repeated of a golden city inhabited by Empyrean Wizards that was suddenly plagued by greed and gluttony when a meager fledgling magician by the name of Imperius the Great wandered in. Some did not believe the city ever existed; others who knew better wanted it to stay lost. John William and Celeste were more than ready for another adventure. The search for Copia seemed to be a perfect opportunity. They were unaware of the dangers until it was too late. Shadow jumpers emerged and grew rapidly in numbers. They wanted the medallion; its power would bring the lost city to life again, unlocking the dark past dormant with in its walls. The young explorers were in a mess of trouble. If they did not fix things fast, Copia’s pestilence of wild creatures would be set free to stir up an evil capable of destroying the realm.

John William and the Bandits of Basswood

We already know Alexander Drake’s story. His father, John William started it all years before when he entered Azra’s Pith. This is his story. John William was born an explorer; just like his dad before him. His adventure really began with the worst year of his life. He lived everyday in misery until his twelfth birthday. He set out to turn things around and find his smile again. A new friend gave him an invitation he could not turn down… follow me and change your destiny. He never imagined being captured by bandits and taken to a ship riddled with river rats was part of his fate. Not just any bandits – the Bandits of Basswood; known to be a ruthless and wild crew of thieves. Trying to escape would be a ridiculous idea. No one has ever escaped and lived to tell about it. Someone should have mentioned that to John William before he snuck off the ship. The chase out of Basswood was on. He took a chance to change his destiny and ended up on a wild ride to save his life.

Being the frizzy-haired tomboy with buck teeth gave me a slight case of shyness as a kid. A colorful imagination meant escape and adventure at the drop of a hat. Over the years I learned that the insecurities I carried around were a waste of time. I still prefer a football game to a manicure any day of the week. That indispensable imagination has found its way into my writing providing a sense of joy and a true purpose.

Book Tour: The First Day of the New Tomorrow by Jennifer M. Eaton

Great cover, right? I’m so excited about our guest post by Jennifer M. Eaton today! I know you want to hear what’s on her mind as much as I do, so without further ado …. I give you, Ms. Eaton …

If you could choose, what super power would you pick?

When I set out to write “The First Day of the New Tomorrow” I knew it was going to be a superhero story.  But that was about it.

I decided to start off with a girl not unlike myself as a kid.  I think I was pretty normal… not really happy with my looks, wished I was better in sports, etc.  I modeled my character after what I considered the lowest of the low in a teenager’s self-esteem.

Then the fun stuff started.  Since it was my story, I got to PICK what super power to give myself.  Hey, good deal, huh?  So I went for the big tamale… omnipotence.  Well, almost omnipotence.  There has to be rules for everything, right?

And there’s also consequences. But that’s not the fun part, so let’s push that aside for a second.

Imagine yourself in high school, and one day you wake up, and your every thought becomes a reality.

Pretty cool, huh?

Yeah, Maya thinks so too.  Until things begin to go very wrong.

It’s not easy to control your thoughts, is it?  Ever been angry at someone?  It can get pretty ugly, can’t it?

Maya finds out that omnipotent power can be as much a curse as it is a blessing, and not all things can be undone.

That kind of makes super powers not sound so super, doesn’t it?

So what do you think you would do?  If you could have any power imaginable, what super power would you pick, and maybe more importantly—What would you do with it?

TIED book giveaway/interview with Laney McMann

And without further ado ….

TIED (A Fire Born Novel, #1)

Awesome, right?

BLURB:

Normal people don’t believe their nightmares stalk them. They don’t fall in love with boys who don’t exist, either.

Seventeen-year-old Layla Labelle, though, is far from normal. Her delusions walk the earth. Her hallucinations hunt her, and her skin heats to a burn every time her anger flares.

Or is that all in her head?

Layla doesn’t know what to believe any more because if none of that’s true, Max MacLarnon must be an illusion, and her heart must still be broken.

No matter how much she wants to believe Max is real, doing so would mean everything else is, too. How, then, is that possible?

The answers lie in an age-old legend the supernatural aren’t prepared to reveal, and with a curse that could tear Layla and Max apart forever—if it doesn’t kill them both first.

In TIED, book one in the Fire Born trilogy, learning the truth will mean fighting an arsenal of demons, and being with Max will put Layla on a path toward her own destruction.

Just how far will Layla go to protect the one she loves?

The answer may never be far enough … away.

Welcome, we are so thrilled you’re here!

Q. Tell us about your book!

LM: TIED is a story about seventeen year old Layla Labelle who discovers that everything in her world is far from what she believed. She has a hard time … adjusting. 😉

Q. How did you come up with the idea?

LM: The story idea found me. All my story ideas come to me—and the characters start talking. TIED just held on tighter than any of my other WIP’s. It refused to shut up. 😉

Q. What’s your main character’s greatest strength, biggest flaw?

LM: Layla’s greatest strength is her loyalty. Biggest flaw? Learning to control her anger.

Q. What is the hardest part of writing for you?

LM: Streamlining my ideas. I’ll have thoughts going in every direction at any given time. When that happens, I have to stop listening to myself and only listen to my characters.

Q. What one question do you wish an interviewer would ask you but never has?

LM: Well, I’m kind of new to this so I’m not sure. 😉 Maybe, why do I write? The answer would be because I love it. Because it moves me like nothing else does.

Q. What are you working on now? Do you tend to work on multiple projects or one at a time?

LM: Right now I’m writing TORN, the sequel to TIED.

I need to be working on multiple projects. 😉 But no, right now, I’m focusing on the Fire Born Novels.

Q. What is your favorite line from this book?

LM: “How far would you go to protect the one you love?”

Q. Did you always want to be a writer?

LM: I’ve written all my life, but being a published writer was just a dream. It wasn’t something I took seriously.  Until a few years ago. 😉

Q. Was there any part that you struggled with or avoided writing?

LM: Um … I don’t think so. TIED is a fairly emotional book in some ways, and I didn’t shy away when the story started going in that direction.

Q. What are you reading right now? Do you read a book at a time or more than one?

LM: I just started Terri Rochenski’s new book, Eye Of The Soul. I have an ARC. 😉 And I’m also doing some beta reading for another author friend of mine.

I generally do read more than one book at a time unless a series of books just yanks me by the throat. Then I’ll go into a ravenous reading state and read them all, and nothing else, in a matter of days. 😉 Assuming an entire series is out.

Q. What do you like to do when you’re not writing? Any hobbies?

LM: I run. I read. I’m a chef, so I cook. Go to the beach. Listen to music. Lately, all I’ve been doing is writing, though.

Q. What was your favorite book/who was your favorite writer as a teen?

LM: I don’t have one favorite book. I have lots of favorites. When I was really young, Judy Blume was my favorite writer. In my teens and twenties, Anne Rice was definitely my favorite.

Q. Who is your favorite writer now?

LM: Anne Rice is still up there. I really like George R.R. Martin, and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series is one of my all time favorites. Also Michael Scott. Suzanne Collins. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

 Q. What is the best young adult book you’ve read so far in 2013?

The Hunger Games series.

Q. What do you see emerging as the next big trend in young adult literature?

LM: I know Dystopia is pretty hot right now, but honestly, I don’t follow the trends. I read what I like, and I write what speaks to me.

Q. Have you ever wanted to quit writing? Why? What made you keep going?

LM: Quit is a strong word. I’ve wondered what I was doing a few times. Writing can be very hard in so many ways.

I keep going because for me, it’s worth it. Writing is a passion I’ve always had, and sometimes our passions irritate us, make us mad—doesn’t mean we aren’t still in love. Doesn’t mean we just give up.

Q. If you could have a career besides being an author, what would it be?

LM: I was a dancer for most of my childhood and into my adult life, so if I had to choose, it would definitely be that. Assuming my knees held out this go round. 😉

Q. We love animals! Do you have any pets? Can you tell us a bit about them?

LM: I LOVE animals, too. My step dad calls me Ellie May from the Beverly Hillbillies. ;P I’m an absolute sucker for dogs. Big ones. I have three, but if I had the space, I’d have a lot more. I can’t go to shelters because I want to take them all home.

I have a Chocolate Lab who can’t stay out of the water and loves her toys. A Golden Retriever who is completely high strung, but very sweet. And a Lab/German Shepard Mix who is my oldest, most protective, but gentle boy. I also have two cats. A Tabby Point Siamese, and a Calico who is very, very vocal. 😉

Want more? I know it, me too … how about this?

Excerpt:

Forcing myself to blink, I turned my head away. The visions had grown worse as I’d become older. I’d tried to convince myself they were nightmares—or weird dreams. Hoped for years they were, but only people who sleep dream.

Unable, or unwilling to stop myself, I glanced back over my shoulder, thoughts flooding my brain. Memories I knew couldn’t be memories but I cherished all the same. For years I’d tried to shake them away. To make myself forget.

I couldn’t.

Perry Road

Revolution Series by Emi Gayle Release Date: September 3, 2013 Target Reader: New Adult/Young Adult Keywords: Dystopian Paperback, EPUB, Kindle

Blurb:

In 2132, “We the people …” means nothing, and it hasn’t for a hundred years.
Like all the citizens of the American Union, eighteen-year-old Erianna Keating is not to ask questions. She is not to believe anything except what the A.U. tells her. More importantly, she’s not supposed to know what she doesn’t know, nor that she’s a pawn.
Like everyone else, though, she is, and like everyone else, she is a hundred percent oblivious to what’s going on.
Or is she? Are they?
Erianna thinks going to Perry Road and joining the national registration program is her next step toward adulthood; the 2132 candidates for adult-classification, though, are in for a big surprise. Especially Erianna.
Thanks to Zane Warren, an awkward but hot guy who won’t shut up about a history that doesn’t—or shouldn’t—matter anymore, Erianna will know. Will learn. That includes finding out what actually happens after registration and doing something, anything, about it.
Fixing what went wrong, what caused the U.S.A. to split into two countries, though, is not on Erianna’s bucket list, but as she faces her future, she must decide whether to fall in line with the American Union’s plan for her, or to consider that Zane might not be wrong, and the time for revolution begins now.

The Author:

Emi Gayle
I had a really great bio in my head around midnight one night …. right before I fell asleep and it disappeared into the nothingness of unconsciousness. Bummer. So here’s something less well thought out.
I want to be young again, so I’m kinda sorta living it again. At least on paper. You see, I write paranormal romance. Now, that stuff can get really hot, and really gritty and well … mine does. But! My characters are teenagers, 18 and under. Like I was once … and want to be again.
Why would I want to be a teenager again? Geez. Because! If you met the man of your dreams at 14 was engaged to him at 19 and married him at 20, wouldn’t YOU want to do all that over again? Especially if you were still in love with him? I mean, c’mon! It’s love! That’s why I write, too.
You see… just because you pass a certain age doesn’t mean you forget what it was like to be 14, 15, etc. Actually, because I kinda grew up with my husband, we both still feel like the 14 and 17 year old kids we once were. So that’s where I’m coming from. You might think it’s totally lame, but you know what? That’s ok! Maybe you’ll like my other me instead. ;)

Excerpt:

“Well?” Cam asks.
For some reason, I don’t want her to know. I want to find out by myself if I’m going to get a real life, or if I’m destined to wear hand-me-downs from twenty years ago until I’m ninety. I want to prepare, to plan, to cry if we don’t get to go together, or if I’m not like her.
I’m not, of course—in any way like her. Who am I kidding?
After what seems like hours, but is only seconds, I say, “Nothing.”
“Damn.” She throws her arms up in the air. “Figures. And it’s almost five. So, you know, I gotta go. Mom’s sure I’m going to be chosen to pop out babies, like she is, so she wants to make sure I know how to cook before the fake chefs get ahold of me to ‘teach’ me.” Cam gives me a dramatic eye roll and places a hand to her forehead. “Like, oh, my Oz, Eri, you know? We have people to cook for us for a reason. Duh! If I learn to cook, what job am I going to give someone like your mom, you know? And why would I get picked to be fat and ugly when I look like this?” She bats at her blonde curls.
Wanting to change the subject—to anything but the woes of Cam’s perfect life—I walk to her, give her a hug and a quick pat on the back. “I’ll … call you when I get it, ‘kay?”
“You better. We only have two days to shop for the perfect outfit. Why couldn’t your birthday be October twenty-ninth instead of December?” She snatches up her coat—preparation for the winter blast that will tear into uncovered skin. “And … you’re not a fluke. You will get in the white house, and when January first comes, we’ll be official!” She boogies her way out, hips wiggling. For someone who’s not happy about the prospect of becoming a baby factory, she’s awfully chipper.
I know it’s because she’s waiting to hear my fate. To prove I’m not a fluke. To validate my relevance as her friend—the one girl Cam can give backhanded compliments, and, for that matter, insults all day long, and still walk back in with a smile as if nothing happened.
Cam walks through the hallway and says goodbye to my mom who’s probably still working at her makeshift office in our miniature kitchen—trying, I assume, to avoid the whole days’ events. As much as Cam wants me to not be a fluke, my mom wants me to be one. If I’m like her, nothing will change. Like Cam, I’ll be the same old Erianna, just one day older and as useless as all the other flukes in the world.
The front door opens and closes, and I move to the window. Once Cam disappears from view, and only then, I turn over my P-Comm and touch the one message that sits inside.
The one that says: “Invitation for Erianna Price Keating.”

One thing you need to know about LJ Clarkson is that she tells BIG lies. She tells everyone that she gave up her career as an Environmental Engineer and Project Manager to write full time. But that’s not entirely true. Ten percent of the time she sleeps in. Fifteen percent of her day, she spends surfing the internet, researching for new books and her business. Ok, fine. Two percent is for research. But she’s only admitting it so she doesn’t end up like Boldrick. For eighteen point seven five percent of her day, she runs her promotional and support site for authors, called Indicated (www.indicated.com.au). The rest of her time involves writing, reading, watching movies and TV, walking her dogs and falling asleep whenever her boyfriend talks technical computer lingo. Truthfully, she hates early mornings, mondays, grammar (yuck! just ask her poor editor!), broccoli and cleaning. If you would like to drop her and line and let her know what you think of the book, she would love to hear from you. Just not before 8:30am in the morning.

Excerpt:

“Did you know Isabelle has a silver, alien antenna?” Bimouth’s voice sang out over the shouts and chatter of the school bus, capturing everyone’s attention. “In science class, a magnet flew out of Mr. Higgins’ hand and stuck to her antenna. How freaky is that?”

Isabelle’s back pressed against her seat.

Bianca leapt up like a jack-in-a-box. Her voice came out as a hiss. “Shut your face horse mite or I’ll shut it for you.”

Looked like the bus ride might end in death.

Bigmouth turned to face Bianca. “What if Isabelle’s antenna, like, turns us into alien zombies?”

A chorus of whispers broke out.

Catching the bus was a very bad idea. Isabelle prayed again for that black hole to open up and suck her in. Better yet, she wished it would gobble up the bigmouth. Isabelle tugged on Bianca’s arm and said in a low voice, “Just cut it off.”

Her friend’s eyes softened. “You sure, Boof?”

“The hair’s caused nothing but trouble since it sprouted.” The little voice inside Isabelle’s mind begged her not to, but she didn’t listen.

“Ok.” Something in Bianca’s school bag rattled as she riffled through it. She yanked a pair of scissors free.

Isabelle’s gut clenched as her friend laid the strand between the blades. “Wait!” She suddenly felt unsure about whether to get rid of it. What if it were special and magical like Bianca had said? A magnetic hair, although cool, was hardly magical. Isabelle decided to test it. Closing her eyes, she willed her strand to turn Bigmouth into a toad.

But Bigmouth’s voice still carried throughout the bus. “And in gym class, like, she bled this weird, pink dust.”

“Definitely an alien,” someone nearby agreed.

So much for Isabelle’s strand being magical. “Cut it,” she said, exchanging a sideways look with Bianca.

Her friend squeezed the handles together. Fuchsia-colored sparks shot out and scalded Isabelle’s right cheek. The strand sizzled and hissed like a firecracker, drawing the attention of Bigmouth.

She shrieked like a real girl. “Look! Isabelle’s antenna’s on fire.”

Doesn’t it sound good?
