Blurb:

Lochlanach has traded the great beast for something far more terrible, a Lashed enemy veiled in beauty, deception, and a vengeance passed down through generations: Rozaria Rocato. And she’s offering the hunter Paxton Seabolt power and acceptance he could never receive in his homeland. Pax must decide how far he’s willing to go under her tutelage, knowing she is the opponent of Princess Aerity Lochson.

In a land where traditionalists dread change, the Lochlan throne must contend with mysterious foes and traitors, while attempting to keep revolt at bay. As dire circumstances strike the royal family, matters of the castle are left in Aerity’s hands. It’s time to put aside her fears and grasp the reign, taking actions that have the potential to save or destroy her people.

One hunt has ended, but the pursuit for love and justice continue. In this sequel to The Great Hunt from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, political intrigue and romance intensify in another thrilling fantasy. Princess Aerity embraces a quest for identity and passion before making the ultimate sacrifice for her kingdom.

Blurb:

Seventeen-year-old, Eric, is a kick-butt squire to the most revered knight in Fallhollow. Well he would be if Sir Trogsdill allowed him to do anything even remotely awesome. Determined to prove his worth, Eric sets out to find the mythical paladin summoned to protect the realm from the evil lurking nearby.

Sixteen-year-old, David, spends his days collecting school honors, winning archery tournaments, and trying not to fall in love with his scrappy best friend, Charlotte.

Right when things start to get interesting, he is whisked away to the magical realm of Fallhollow where everyone thinks he’s some sort of paladin destined to fulfill a two-hundred-year-old prophecy. He’s supposed to help kill a dragon with some sort of magic key. The same key that happens to adorn the neck of an annoying squire who’s too wrapped up in proving himself to be much help to anyone.

With egos as big as the dragon they need to destroy, Eric and David must get over themselves, or watch everything they know and love, burn.

Hey, Jen!

Thanks so much for joining us here today, we’re really excited about your book. Can you share your playlist with us?

OMGosh, I was afraid someone was going to ask me for this. Where do I begin?

I listen to a lot of music from country to classic rock, to classical, opera and everything in between (except for rap. Just can’t get into it). When I write, I usually don’t listen to music with words in it because hearing people singing distracts from what I’m trying to say. I end up signing along and them all of a sudden I’m staring at my work thinking. “What was I trying to say here?”

Because I write YA fantasy, and because I always envision my books as movies, I get a lot of my inspiration from online video games and movie scores. There are hours upon hours of listening to soundtracks, etc., and when I find something that I like, it goes on my Spotify play list.

In the case of IN THE SHADOW OF THE DRAGON KING, you will see songs that you might know sung by artists like Katy Perry and Fall Out Boys. They are there because they remind me in some way of David or Eric, both protagonists, David from our world, Eric from the magical world of Fallhollow. I hope once people read the book, they’ll be able to understand more why I chose them.

The list is extensive and at this time, they are not in any particular order, though I have begun to sort them out. I’ve written the names of the songs and their artists out for you, but if you want to listen to them, please check out my Spotify playlist which you can find here (if you don’t have a free Spotify account, you can sign in using your Facebook account). I also have the playlist on my website, but you will still need to log in to Spotify to listen.

So, here you go. I hope you enjoy and if you have any questions about why I chose the songs, please feel free to reach out to me on my website or on Goodreads. I’d love to hear from you!!!

J. Keller Ford (known to all as Jenny) is a scribbler of Young Adult and New Adult speculative fiction. Argos by Phillip W. Simpson
Release Date: May 10, 2016
Publisher: Month9Books

Blurb:

Loyalty has no limits

Raised from a pup by Greek hero, Odysseus, Argos has come to learn the true meaning of love and loyalty. But when Odysseus leaves for the Trojan War, little does Argos know it will be 20 years before he sees his master again. With Odysseus gone his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, are easy prey for neighboring kings and the Gods themselves.

But Argos was tasked to keep them safe until Odysseus returns and that is a promise he is determined to keep – whatever the cost. Told through his eyes, Argos recounts the story of his life – his pain, his joy, his triumphs and failures; his endurance in the face of hardships almost too great to believe.

Above all else, Argos strives to do what is right – and to remain loyal to his King when all others have given up hope. To live long enough to see his beloved master one more time.

This epic myth of love and loyalty proves that a dog really is man’s best friend.

And now for some fun author questions:

Can you share some of your manuscript playlist with us?

• Doesn’t remind me – Audioslave
• Going the distance – Cake
• Block rockin’ beats (good to write fight scenes to) – Chemical brothers
• Photograph – Ed Sheeran
• Sadeness – Enigma
• I started a joke – Faith no more

What were your favorite books as a middle schooler or teen and why?

I was pretty lucky growing up. My parents were huge book lovers. My father collects books. He is a bit obsessed. Anyway, I could just pick whatever I wanted from the bookshelf. I’m a bit like that myself. I have a large collection of books and I want my son to cherry pick whatever books of mine he wants.

• The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings (obviously). These books got me into reading. I discovered a love of fantasy because of these books. Thank you, Tolkien.

• Anything by Piers Anthony. A bit childish but I loved them at the time (probably because I was a child).

• Anything by Julian May – Saga of the Exiles was magnificent. Such a complicated and believable world.

• Anything by Stephen Donaldson – the Cronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. Love the Bloodguard. Read the series as a middle schooler and although some of the content is inappropriate for that age, I loved it regardless. Actually, YA didn’t really exist when I was growing up. You read kids’ books and then progressed to adult books. I was such a voracious reader that I quickly exhausted what was considered ‘appropriate’ and just read what I felt like.

• Anything by Iain M. Banks (his science fiction.)

• Anything by Jack Vance. And I do mean anything. He wrote over 50 books and I love every single one. I think I started with Lyonesse as a middle schooler and then read all his back catalogue. He is one of the greats. A true word smith. I love him.

• The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey. Lots of other great books here but I particularly loved her dragons. The White Dragon was awesome.

• Spellsinger by Alan Dean Foster. Rock and roll man!

• Dune and all the sequels (Frank Herbert). Everything about this world is cool. The Sardukar, the Freemen, the Sand worms.

• The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. Probably my favorite book of all time and I read this as a teen (I would not recommend this to a middle schooler).

• Gateway by Frederick Pohl. Great concept. I used to go to sleep dreaming about what I do if I discovered lots of Heechee ‘treasure’

Wow, what a great list of reads!

Thanks so much for being here today. I’m excited about your new book and can’t wait to read.

No amount of training has prepared Jaevid Broadfeather for the frontlines of battle. Now facing the true horrors of war, with Luntharda looming on the horizon, Jaevid has begun to question everything he thought about his heritage. But in an instant, even that slips through Jaevid’s fingers as he steps from the safety of his dragon’s saddle into the depths of his mother’s wild homeland—the kingdom of the gray elves.

Stranded in Luntharda with his partner, Lieutenant Jace Rordin, Jaevid must finally confront the demons of his own past as he uncovers the truth about a war that began before he was ever born. Armed with a new appreciation for destiny, and flanked by his trusted friends, Jaevid moves to make the final strike against an enemy that has hidden in plain sight for far too long.

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES:

Fledgling

When Jaevid Broadfeather is given the rare opportunity to become a dragonrider for the king’s army, the 15-year-old boy has no idea that he is part of a conspiracy that will rock the very foundations of the kingdom.

Jaevid Broadfeather has grown up as a wartime refugee, hiding from the world because of his mixed racial heritage. He feels his future is hopeless, until a chance encounter with a wild dragon lands him in Blybrig Academy—a place usually forbidden to anyone but the rich and royal. But Jaevid’s case is special; no dragon has voluntarily chosen a rider in decades, so the proud riders of Blybrig must begrudgingly let him join their brotherhood despite his bloodline. Lieutenant Sile Derrick, a sternly tempered man with a mysterious past, becomes his instructor and immediately takes a peculiar interest in Jaevid’s future.

While struggling through the rigorous physical demands of training, things begin to go awry. Jaevid witnesses the king’s private guards kidnapping Sile in the dead of night. When none of the elder riders are willing to help him, Jaevid begins a dangerous adventure to save his instructor.

Everything Jaevid learned at the academy will now be put to the ultimate test.

Avian

Jaevid wants to pass his Avian year of training . . . but will he even survive it?

What kind of power is lurking inside him? After a year of training to become a dragonrider, Jaevid Broadfeather has been sent home to rest during a three-month interlude. But when he returns to find the king drake has chosen Beckah Derrick as his new rider, Jaevid realizes something big is about to happen. Every fiber of his being is pushed to the breaking point as Jaevid battles through his avian year, preparing for the final graduation test of the battle scenario. But there is more standing in his way than a few pushups and fancy sword moves. Jaevid must face a new fear as he is tormented by a gruesome nightmare of a mysterious gray elf warrior murdering the royal family of Maldobar. It seems obvious to him that this is some kind of message about how the war started long ago—until Felix assures him the king is very much alive. With his strange powers growing stronger by the day, and that violent dream replaying in his mind every night, Jaevid no longer wonders if he will pass his avian year or not—he wonders if he will even survive it.

The truth will soon be set loose.

the pirate hunting dirigible The Renegade. Using every card in her aristocratic arsenal,
Marguerite wiggles her way onto the finest warship France has to offer. But as
usual,

return from, she finally realizes it’s time to reorder her cogs.

This steampunk adventure is littered with facts from The Golden Age of Piracy and follows
