Hey! It’s a great day in the neighborhood because, well, because it is, but also because it’s my book birthday!

I’ve been saying all day that if Alice in Wonderland had a book baby with Labyrinth, and that baby grew up to marry The Walking Dead, you would get something like …

Blurb:

The Artisan curse is broken. Souls trapped in a mysterious otherworld called The Void are finally released. Now, Raven Weathersby, Gideon Maddox, and Cole Wynter can finally move on with their lives…or so they thought. If the ancient magic is truly dead, then why are mystical fires plaguing Gideon at every turn? What accounts for Raven’s frightening visions of her dead mother? And who is the beautiful, tortured girl haunting Cole’s dreams?

Last year, a group of lonely teens sacrificed secrets, battled the supernatural, and faced their own demons to set one another free. Yet six months later, the heart of evil still beats within The Void. And the trio is forced to face the horrific truth: that their only way out is to go back in.

The Paladins completes this eerie YA Southern Gothic where loyalties are tested, love is challenged, and evil seeks them on the ultimate battlegrounds—in their minds, their souls, and their hearts.

THE ARTISANS was born last May. You can catch up on this story for only .99 cents and the jump into THE PALADINS!!!

I’m super excited to be hosting the lovely Sarvenaz Tash
on my website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

 Bio:
Sarvenaz Tash was born in Tehran, Iran and grew up on Long Island, NY. She received her BFA in Film and Television from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. This means she got to spend most of college running around and making movies (it was a lot of fun). She has dabbled in all sorts of writing including screenwriting, copywriting, and professional tweeting. Sarvenaz currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and I’ve heard she can watch 22 movies in a row, but of course, it’s just a rumor.

And now on to the the EXCLUSIVE CONTENT … (yay!)

Behind the Cover of The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love

It’s always equal parts thrilling and scary to see the cover of your book for the first time. On the one hand, you get to see the professionally produced artwork that’s going to signify your story on bookshelves and e-readers and websites, etc. On the other, you’re relying on someone else’s interpretation of that story.

Spoiler alert: with the cover of The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love, I needn’t have worried.  My editor told me in advance that art director Lucy Ruth Cummins would be designing the cover. I knew Lucy’s work, you see (she’s designed the covers of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Since You’ve Been Gone, and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer to name just a few) and I was already a huge fan. Then my editor asked me if I had any ideas for the cover myself. I gave her a couple (among them: a peek at main character Graham’s nerdy bookshelves and a stylized comic book idea), but a few weeks later, she came back with a preliminary sketch from Lucy. It looked like this:

Sketch

Obviously, it’s a very rough sketch, but again, I just assumed it would look amazing because: Lucy.

Then a little while later, they sent me the portfolios of a few of the models they were considering for the cover. Lucy and I both agreed: wonderful, redheaded Tim Sundholm was the one.

Tim

And then a few weeks after that, Lucy, Tim, and photographer Dolly Faibyshev went to the Javits Center (where the book takes place!) and a shoot took place.

Lucy has been kind enough to share some of these behind-scenes-photos that she took.

Photo1

Apparently the Mylar balloons are from Duane Reade.

Photo2

I think by the end of the shoot, Tim had possibly eaten an entire box of chocolates (clearly he suffers for his art. J)

Photo3

An alternate idea with Graham plucking daisy petals.

Photo4

From l-r: Hair and make-up artist Agata Smentek, photographer Dolly Faibyshev, and model Tim Sundholm. (Yes, it’s SUPER cool that there was a make-up artist working to get someone to look like my main character!)

And a few weeks later, I got this in my inbox:

3P JKT Geeks_Guide.indd

And I just about died. Because it’s perfect. I know you guys don’t know Graham yet but this photo…this is Graham. And the font. And the colors. AND THERE’S FOIL.

In short, I don’t care if my love for this cover is unrequited or not. To me, it is perfect.

 Blurb:

Graham met his best friend, Roxana, when he moved into her neighborhood eight years ago, and she asked him which Hogwarts house he’d be sorted into. Graham has been in love with her ever since.

But now they’re sixteen, still neighbors, still best friends. And Graham and Roxy share more than ever—moving on from their Harry Potter obsession to a serious love of comic books.

When Graham learns that the creator of their favorite comic, The Chronicles of Althena, is making a rare appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con, he knows he must score tickets. And the event inspires Graham to come up with the perfect plan to tell Roxy how he really feels about her. He’s got three days to woo his best friend at the coolest, kookiest con full of superheroes and supervillains. But no one at a comic book convention is who they appear to be…even Roxy. And Graham is starting to realize fictional love stories are way less complicated than real-life ones.

Hi! Julie here again. Wasn’t that awesome? I love to get a look at anything behind the scenes.

Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Julie Reece and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 22 Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the GOLD TEAM and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

Title: THE ARTISANS
Author: Julie Reece
Pub. Date: May 12, 2015
Publisher: Month9Books
Pages: 300
They say death can
be beautiful. But after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old Raven
Weathersby gives up her dream of becoming a fashion designer, barely surviving
life in the South Carolina lowlands.
To make ends meet, Raven works after school as a seamstress creating stunning
works of fashion that often rival the great names of the day.
Instead of making things easier on the high school senior, her stepdad’s
drinking leads to a run in with the highly reclusive heir to the Maddox family
fortune, Gideon Maddox.
But Raven’s stepdad’s drying out and in no condition to attend the meeting with
Maddox. So Raven volunteers to take his place and offers to repay the debt in
order to keep the only father she’s ever known out of jail, or worse.
Gideon Maddox agrees, outlining an outrageous demand: Raven must live in his
home for a year while she designs for Maddox Industries’ clothing line, signing
over her creative rights.
Her handsome young captor is arrogant and infuriating to the nth degree, and
Raven can’t imagine working for him, let alone sharing the same space for more
than five minutes.
But nothing is ever as it seems. Is Gideon Maddox the monster the world
believes him to be? And can he stand to let the young seamstress see him as he
really is?
Praise for THE ARTISANS:

a romantic tension to be savored.”  ~ Wendy Higgins, New York Times
bestselling author of the Sweet Evil trilogy.

blend of romance and horror with a strong female lead kept me reading through
the night.”~ L.S. Murphy author of PIXELATED Bloomsbury Spark and REAPERJ.

WHAT READER’S ARE SAYING:

That book was so freakin’ good! Intense, insane, freaky at parts and sooooo
good! I haven’t had emotions like this about a book in a long time!”~
Mindy Blogger @ Magical Urban Fantasy Reads

thing I thought when I finished this book was ‘dang, I would love to see this
as a movie’. The Artisans has such an awesome and haunting concept to it plus I
just adore all of the characters.”~Jena Blogger @ Shortie Says

Artisans was a unique modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast filled with

Born in Ohio, I lived next to my grandfather’s horse farm
until the fourth grade. Summers were about riding, fishing and make-believe,
while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was
magical, but not all.
I struggled with multiple learning disabilities, did not excel in school. I
spent much of my time looking out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade
(with the help of one very nice teacher) I fought dyslexia for my right to
read, like a prince fights a dragon in order to free the princess locked in a
tower, and I won.
Afterwards, I read like a fiend. I invented stories where I could be the
princess… or a gifted heroine from another world who kicked bad guy butt to win
the heart of a charismatic hero. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Later,
I moved to Florida where I continued to fantasize about superpowers and
monsters, fabricating stories (my mother called it lying) and sharing them with
my friends.
Then I thought I’d write one down…
Hooked, I’ve been writing ever since. I write historical, contemporary, urban
fantasy, adventure, and young adult romances.
I love strong heroines, sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure… which
must include a really hot guy. My writing is proof you can work hard to
overcome any obstacle. Don’t give up. I say, if you write, write on!

Title: THE PERILOUS JOURNEY OF THE NOT SO INNOCUOUS GIRL
Author: Leigh Statham
Pub. Date: March 17, 2015
Publisher: Month9Books, LLC.
Pages: 297
Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Lady Marguerite lives a life most 17th century French girls
can only dream of: money, designer dresses, suitors and a secure future. Except
she suspects she may be falling for her best friend Claude, a common smithie in
the family’s steam forge.
When Claude leaves for New France in search of a better life, Marguerite
decides to follow him and test her suspicions of love. But the trip proves more
harrowing than she had anticipated, revealing secrets and testing her strength
as well as her heart. Love, adventure and restitution await her in Canada, but
only if she can survive the voyage.
WHAT READER’S ARE SAYING:
“The writing is solid and the world-building – that
clever combination of historical detail and Ms. Statham’s imagination – is
excellent.”~ The Australia Times Books
“I’d give more than five stars if I could. I’d recommend this to anyone who is a fan of
young adult steampunk, girls who aren’t afraid to wield guns and wear pants in
an age of dresses, adventure, and a dash of romance.” ~Bitches n Prose
“ I ADORED this story, and these characters, and I don’t want to give too much away.
It is all worth stumbling across on your own!
With a cover to drool over, fantastic characters, a simmering romance, awesome
historical settings, and majorly cool steampunk elements, The Perilous Journey
of the Not-So-Innocuous Girl (awesome title) easily captivated me, and now that
it is over I want MORE!” ~ The Best Books Ever
“  I’ve only recently discovered Steampunk, and
every story that I read in this genre makes me love it even more. The Perilous
Journey of the Not-So-Innocuous Girl was such an adventure! This book is
rich in so many things and lacking absolutely nothing.”~ Pretty Little Pages

Leigh Statham was raised in the wilds of rural Idaho, but
found her heart in New York City. She worked as a waitress, maid, artist, math
teacher, nurse, web designer, art director, thirty-foot inflatable pig and mule
wrangler before she settled down in the semi-quiet role of wife, mother and
writer. She resides in North Carolina with her husband, four children, five
chickens and two suspected serial killer cats. If the air is cool and the sun
is just coming up over the horizon, you can find her running the streets of her
small town, plotting her next novel with the sort of intensity that will one
day get her hit by a car.

Hi guys!

I’ve joyously said Happy Book Birthday to a lot of amazing authors, for a ton of fantastic books, for a long while now. So, it’s seems incredibly surreal that today the celebration is for a story out of my very own (albeit weird) mind.

I’m hopeful readers will enjoy the twisting journey existing between these pages. I hope they find something satisfying as well as unexpected. Oh, and this is probably a good place to give a big shout out to all those who requested early copies and have been so kind and supportive. I am forever grateful. ♥

Like the rest of Luca’s friends, he’s dead. And for some reason, Lucas can’t remember his former life, his parents or friends. Did he go to school? Have a dog? Brothers and sisters?
If only he could recall his former life, maybe even reach out to his parents, haunt them.

When a ghost hunter determines to shut the show down, Lucas realizes the life he has might soon be over. And without a connection to his family, he will have nothing. There’s little time and Lucas has much to do. Can he win the love of Columbine, the show’s enchanting fifteen-year-old mystic? Can he outwit the forces of life and death that thwart his efforts to find his family?

Keep the lights on! Lucas Mackenzie’s coming to town.

Nobody’s Goddess by Amy McNulty
Coming April 21, 2015

M9B-cover-reveal-3D

In a village of masked men, each loves only one woman and must follow the commands of his “goddess” without question. A woman may reject the only man who will love her if she pleases, but she will be alone forever. And a man must stay masked until his goddess returns his love—and if she can’t or won’t, he remains masked forever.

Where the rest of her village celebrates this mystery that binds men and women together, seventeen year old Noll is just done with it. She’s lost all her childhood friends as they’ve paired off, but the worst blow was when her closest companion, Jurij, finds his goddess in Noll’s own sister. Desperate to find a way to break this ancient spell, Noll instead discovers why no man has ever loved her: she is in fact the goddess of the mysterious lord of the village, a Byronic man who refuses to let Noll have her right as a woman to spurn him and who has the power to fight the curse. Thus begins a dangerous game between the two: the choice of woman versus the magic of man. And the stakes are no less than freedom and happiness, life and death—and neither Noll nor the veiled man is willing to lose.

The-Artisans-cover

They say death can be beautiful. But after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old Raven Weathersby gives up her dream of becoming a fashion designer, barely surviving life in the South Carolina lowlands.

To make ends meet, Raven works after school as a seamstress creating stunning works of fashion that often rival the great names of the day.

Instead of making things easier on the high school senior, her stepdad’s drinking leads to a run in with the highly reclusive heir to the Maddox family fortune, Gideon Maddox.

But Raven’s stepdad’s drying out and in no condition to attend the meeting with Maddox. So Raven volunteers to take his place and offers to repay the debt in order to keep the only father she’s ever known out of jail, or worse.

Gideon Maddox agrees, outlining an outrageous demand: Raven must live in his home for a year while she designs for Maddox Industries’ clothing line, signing over her creative rights.

Her handsome young captor is arrogant and infuriating to the nth degree, and Raven can’t imagine working for him, let alone sharing the same space for more than five minutes.

But nothing is ever as it seems. Is Gideon Maddox the monster the world believes him to be? And can he stand to let the young seamstress see him as he really is?

Born in Ohio, I lived next to my grandfather’s horse farm until the fourth grade. Summers were about riding, fishing and make-believe, while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was magical, but not all.

I struggled with multiple learning disabilities, did not excel in school. I spent much of my time looking out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade (with the help of one very nice teacher) I fought dyslexia for my right to read, like a prince fights a dragon in order to free the princess locked in a tower, and I won.

Afterwards, I read like a fiend. I invented stories where I could be the princess… or a gifted heroine from another world who kicked bad guy butt to win the heart of a charismatic hero. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Later, I moved to Florida where I continued to fantasize about superpowers and monsters, fabricating stories (my mother called it lying) and sharing them with my friends.

Then I thought I’d write one down…

Hooked, I’ve been writing ever since. I write historical, contemporary, urban fantasy, adventure, and young adult romances. I love strong heroines, sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure… which must include a really hot guy. My writing is proof you can work hard to overcome any obstacle. Don’t give up. I say, if you write, write on!

Vessel by Lisa Cresswell
Coming May 26, 2015

Vessel-Cover

The sun exploded on April 18, 2112. It exploded in a Class X solar storm the likes of which humankind had never seen.

They had nineteen minutes.

Nineteen minutes until the geomagnetic wave washed over the Earth, frying every electrical device created by humans, blacking out entire continents, every satellite in their sky.

Nineteen minutes to say goodbye to the world they knew, forever, and to prepare for a new Earth, a new Sun.

Generations after solar storms have destroyed nearly all human technology on Earth and humans have reverted to a middle ages like existence, all knowledge of the remaining technology is kept hidden by a privileged few called the Reticents and books are burned as heresy.

Alana, a disfigured slave girl, and Recks, a traveling minstrel and sometimes-thief, join forces to bring knowledge and books back to the human race. But when Alana is chosen against her will to be the Vessel, the living repository for all human knowledge, she must find the strength to be what the world needs.

Lisa-T.-Cresswell-300x214

Lisa, like most writers, began scribbling silly notes, stories, and poems at a very young age. Born in North Carolina, the South proved fertile ground to her imagination with its beautiful white sand beaches and red earth. In fifth grade, she wrote, directed and starred in a play “The Queen of the Nile” at school, despite the fact that she is decidedly un-Egyptian looking. Perhaps that’s why she went on to become a real life archaeologist? Unexpectedly transplanted to Idaho as a teenager, Lisa learned to love the desert and the wide open skies out West. This is where her interest in cultures, both ancient and living, really took root, and she became a Great Basin archaeologist. However, the itch to write never did leave for long. Her first books became the middle grade fantasy trilogy, The Storyteller Series. Her first traditionally published work, Hush Puppy, is coming soon from Featherweight Press. Lisa currently lives and writes in Idaho with her family and a menagerie of furry critters that includes way too many llamas! You can visit her website at http://www.lisatcresswell.com
