Today, I have the great pleasure of hosting the fabulous ALICE REEDS!

Part figure skating lover, book addict, and psychology and space nerd, Alice Reeds lives in Europe and spends most of her time typing away on another manuscript or watching one too many YouTube videos.

And now, for some awesome cover

Blurb:

They wake on a deserted island. Fiona and Miles, high school enemies now stranded together. No memory of how they got there. No plan to follow, no hope to hold on to.

Each step forward reveals the mystery behind the forces that brought them here. And soon, the most chilling discovery: something else is on the island with them.

Something that won’t let them leave alive.

And here’s her EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!

Take it away, Alice …

Hi everyone!

I’m really excited to share some ECHOES related music with you for the YA Scavenger Hunt. I’ve loved music since I was a child, grew up with Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin playing almost daily, and now I’m obsessing over BTS and SHINee, whatever Tomorrowland set I can get my hands on, or the latest albums my favorite bands and artists have released. I have playlists for basically anything and everything and can’t write, outline, or plot without something playing in the background.

So, today I have three playlists for you, the official ECHOES playlist, as well as one short one for each of my main characters. To be quite honest, putting together the character specific ones was way harder than the book playlist. How do you summarize a character through the use of just three songs? I barely even know which songs I would pick for myself! But, somehow, I’ve managed to do it.

Hope you’ll enjoy this musical insight into my book and happy hunting!

Alice

Today, I am hosting the fabulous Erin Cashman on my

website for the YA Scavenger Hunt!

Erin Cashman is the award-winning author of The Exceptionals, and Uncharted releasing in the Fall of 2018.  She is the workshop coordinator and a permanent mentor at AYAP , and lives in Massachusetts with her husband, three children, and their energetic rescue dog.

Cover

Seventeen-year-old Annabeth prefers the fantasy of her books and paintings to reality—because in reality, her mom is dead, and it was all her fault. When she accompanies her father to the funeral of some family friends who drowned, she’s surprised to find her grief reflected in the face of Griffin Bradford, the son of the couple who died. Griffin is nothing like the carefree boy she once knew. Now he’s irritable, removed, and he’s under police investigation for his parents’ deaths.

One night following the memorial service, Annabeth’s dad goes missing in the woods, and she suspects Griffin knows more about the disappearance than he’s letting on. He refuses to answer her questions, particularly those related to the mysterious “expedition” his parents took to Ireland, where they went missing for seven months.

Annabeth fears her father isn’t lost, but rather a victim of something sinister. She launches her own investigation, tracing clues that whisper of myth and legend and death, until she stumbles upon a secret. One that some would die to protect, others would kill to expose—and which twists Annabeth’s fantasy and reality together in deadly new ways.

 EXCLUSIVE CONTENT!

Hi everyone. I’m Erin Cashman and I’m so excited to share the Novel Aesthetic for UNCHARTED!

A Novel Aesthetic is a great way to visualize the setting, characters, and tone of a book. UNCHARTED takes place on a lake in Maine, and involves an ancient mystery, Irish myths and legends, a deadly secret society, and romance between two characters grappling with their own secrets and guilt.

Here it is!

The wonderful Renee Combs designed it for me, and I think it really captures the feel of the book!

*sorry this contest has ended*

Hey, ya’ll, it’s your host Julie Reece again. Isn’t Erin’s Novel Aesthetic gorgeous? I love it! It’s so romantic and mysterious and definitely makes me want to read to see what happens.

Julia is showcasing her upcoming book The Seafarer’s Kiss!

In case you’re as curious about the story as I am, you’re in luck!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Having long-wondered what lives beyond the ice shelf, nineteen-year-old mermaid Ersel learns of the life she wants when she rescues and befriends Ragna, a shield-maiden stranded on the mermen’s glacier. But when Ersel’s childhood friend and suitor catches them together, he gives Ersel a choice: say goodbye to Ragna or face justice at the hands of the glacier’s brutal king.

Determined to forge a different fate, Ersel seeks help from Loki. But such deals are never as one expects, and the outcome sees her exiled from the only home and protection she’s known. To save herself from perishing in the barren, underwater wasteland and be reunited with the human she’s come to love, Ersel must try to outsmart the God of Lies.

“A romantic, atmospheric and richly detailed take on The Little Mermaid. I loved it.” — Samantha Shannon, bestselling author of The Bone Season

“A beautiful Norse retelling of The Little Mermaid, featuring a young mermaid desperate to break free and a shieldmaiden bent on revenge — dark and romantic, and definitely recommended.” — Laura Lam, author of False Hearts and Pantomime.

Dive deep into the dark and brutal waters of the northern sea in this lush, original retelling of The Little Mermaid. The Seafarer’s Kiss took my breath away.” — Heidi Heilig, author of The Girl from Everywhere.

TOP SECRET BONUS MATERIAL STRAIGHT AHEAD!

Hi! I’m Julia Ember. For my bonus content, I’ve made a fancast! A lot of readers have been asking me how I imagine Ersel and Ragna to look. While I couldn’t find perfect celebrity matches, I got pretty close.

KATANA FATALE as ERSEL – Ersel is the main character in The Seafarer’s Kiss and the narrator. She’s a 19 y/o  bisexual mermaid who wants to leave the ice fortress she’s grown up in and seek her fortune elsewhere under the sea.

In the book, Ersel is described as fair-skinned and fat, with long topaz hair and dark blue scales. As the plus-sized rep in the book, her look is something very important to me, and I wanted to pick a plus-sized model to represent the character.

CHLOE GRACE MORETZ as RAGNA – Ragna is a Viking shield maiden who was abducted by pirates who wanted to use her magical navigating abilities. When their ship sinks, she becomes stranded on the Northern ice-shelf. She meets Ersel and entreats the mermaid for supplies so she can survive.

In the book, Ragna is described as blonde, brown-eyed and very athletic.

ERIKA LINDER as LOKI — Loki is the book’s main antagonist; a Norse god who enjoys manipulating mortals. Loki first enters the narrative as an ally to Ersel, promising her legs in exchange for another’s mermaid’s voice.

Loki was a difficult pick for casting. Like the true Norse mythical representation, Loki is a shapeshifter, and never appears in quite the same form twice. However, in one passage, Ersel sees their true form – androgynous, slim and with lips sealed with painful magical thread. I chose Erika Linder because she is gender fluid and, like Loki in the book, often changes between masculine and feminine self-presentations.

VITO BASSO as HAVAMAL – Havamal is Ersel’s extremely gorgeous childhood friend.  Although he’s in love with Ersel and once agreed to leave the ice fortress with her, Havamal has recently taken a job in the King’s Guard. He loves his family and his home and doesn’t want to leave.

In the book, Havamal is described as muscular with silver eyes, silver scales, and a very slight gap between his front teeth.

Hi! It’s your host Julie again with some great news on how you can add The Seafarer’s Kiss to your TBR list on Goodreads!

 Bio:
Sarvenaz Tash was born in Tehran, Iran and grew up on Long Island, NY. She received her BFA in Film and Television from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. This means she got to spend most of college running around and making movies (it was a lot of fun). She has dabbled in all sorts of writing including screenwriting, copywriting, and professional tweeting. Sarvenaz currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and I’ve heard she can watch 22 movies in a row, but of course, it’s just a rumor.

And now on to the the EXCLUSIVE CONTENT … (yay!)

Behind the Cover of The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love

It’s always equal parts thrilling and scary to see the cover of your book for the first time. On the one hand, you get to see the professionally produced artwork that’s going to signify your story on bookshelves and e-readers and websites, etc. On the other, you’re relying on someone else’s interpretation of that story.

Spoiler alert: with the cover of The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love, I needn’t have worried.  My editor told me in advance that art director Lucy Ruth Cummins would be designing the cover. I knew Lucy’s work, you see (she’s designed the covers of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Since You’ve Been Gone, and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer to name just a few) and I was already a huge fan. Then my editor asked me if I had any ideas for the cover myself. I gave her a couple (among them: a peek at main character Graham’s nerdy bookshelves and a stylized comic book idea), but a few weeks later, she came back with a preliminary sketch from Lucy. It looked like this:

Sketch

Obviously, it’s a very rough sketch, but again, I just assumed it would look amazing because: Lucy.

Then a little while later, they sent me the portfolios of a few of the models they were considering for the cover. Lucy and I both agreed: wonderful, redheaded Tim Sundholm was the one.

Tim

And then a few weeks after that, Lucy, Tim, and photographer Dolly Faibyshev went to the Javits Center (where the book takes place!) and a shoot took place.

Lucy has been kind enough to share some of these behind-scenes-photos that she took.

Photo1

Apparently the Mylar balloons are from Duane Reade.

Photo2

I think by the end of the shoot, Tim had possibly eaten an entire box of chocolates (clearly he suffers for his art. J)

Photo3

An alternate idea with Graham plucking daisy petals.

Photo4

From l-r: Hair and make-up artist Agata Smentek, photographer Dolly Faibyshev, and model Tim Sundholm. (Yes, it’s SUPER cool that there was a make-up artist working to get someone to look like my main character!)

And a few weeks later, I got this in my inbox:

3P JKT Geeks_Guide.indd

And I just about died. Because it’s perfect. I know you guys don’t know Graham yet but this photo…this is Graham. And the font. And the colors. AND THERE’S FOIL.

In short, I don’t care if my love for this cover is unrequited or not. To me, it is perfect.

 Blurb:

Graham met his best friend, Roxana, when he moved into her neighborhood eight years ago, and she asked him which Hogwarts house he’d be sorted into. Graham has been in love with her ever since.

But now they’re sixteen, still neighbors, still best friends. And Graham and Roxy share more than ever—moving on from their Harry Potter obsession to a serious love of comic books.

When Graham learns that the creator of their favorite comic, The Chronicles of Althena, is making a rare appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con, he knows he must score tickets. And the event inspires Graham to come up with the perfect plan to tell Roxy how he really feels about her. He’s got three days to woo his best friend at the coolest, kookiest con full of superheroes and supervillains. But no one at a comic book convention is who they appear to be…even Roxy. And Graham is starting to realize fictional love stories are way less complicated than real-life ones.

 T.A. Maclagan!

24+

Bio: T.A. Maclagan is a Kansas girl by birth but now lives in the bush-clad hills of Wellington, New Zealand with her Kiwi husband, son and four pampered cats. With a bachelor’s degree in biology and a Ph.D. in anthropology, she’s studied poison dart frogs in the rainforests of Costa Rica, howler monkeys in Panama and the very exotic and always elusive American farmer. It was as she was writing her ‘just the facts’ dissertation that T.A. felt the call to pursue something more imaginative and discovered a passion for creative writing.

For more information you can find her online at:

The book  is showcasing in the YA Scavenger Hunt this season is her very first novel

They Call Me Alexandra Gastone

They Call Me Alexandra Gastone

Blurb: Alexandra Gastone has a simple plan: graduate high school, get into Princeton, work for the CIA, and serve her great nation. She was told the plan back when her name was Milena Rokva, back before the real Alexandra and her family were killed in a car crash.

Milena was trained to be a sleeper agent by Perun, a clandestine organization from her true homeland of Olissa. There, Milena learned everything she needed to infiltrate the life of CIA analyst Albert Gastone, Alexandra’s grandfather, and the ranks of America’s top intelligence agency. For seven years, “Alexandra” has been on standby and life’s been good. Grandpa Albert loves her, and her strategically chosen boyfriend, Grant, is amazing. But things are about to change. Perun no longer needs her at the CIA in five years’ time. They need her active now.

Between her cover as a high school girl—juggling a homecoming dance, history reports, and an increasingly suspicious boyfriend—and her mission in this high-stakes spy game, the boundaries of her two lives are beginning to blur.
Will she stay true to the country she barely remembers, or has her loyalty shattered along with her identity?

Wow! How much do you love that cover, people? And the blurb makes me want to read it even more! I’d give away >> 22 << birthday wishes to have it in my hands right now!!! Did you see what I did there? With the number >> 22 <<?
